Since I would want a manual, it will be difficult- autos are easier for a 5.0 swap. I could maybe find a mustang engine/tranny/pcm, but if I remember right the motor mounts are all off. The explorer v8 bolts into the ranger, but the trannys are autos. Re: 2.9 to 4.0 swap questions. it should be pretty much unbolt from one, bolt into the other. you'll have all the wiring, mounts, hoses, etc. your 2.9 trans will work, but probably not for long. the 2.9 trans isn't made for the torque of the 4.0. i would recommend just running the 4.0 trans or find a 5 speed for a 4.0.
